CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Fred (George Peppard) hears Holly (Audrey Hepburn) singing on the fire escape below his apartment and goes out to listen.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
In an idealized New York City during the early ’60s, Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) is a charming socialite with a youthful zest for life who lives alone in a nearly bare apartment. She has such a flippant lifestyle that she won’t even give her cat a name, because that would be too much of a commitment to a relationship. Maintaining a childlike innocence yet wearing the most perfect of designer clothes and accessories from Givenchy, she spends her time on expensive dates and at high-class parties. She escorts various wealthy men, yet fails to return their affections after they have given her gifts and money. Holly’s carefree independence is changed when she meets her neighbor, aspiring writer Paul (George Peppard), who is suffering from writer’s block while being kept by a wealthy woman (Patricia Neal). Just when Holly and Paul are developing their sweet romance, Doc (Buddy Ebsen) appears on the scene and complicates matters, revealing the truth about Holly’s past. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was nominated for several Academy awards, winning Best Score for Henry Mancini and Best Song for Johnny Mercer’s classic tune «Moon River».

The way she sang it has a different appeal. Could be the voice, I don't know. But I'm sure I like this version best.

Música de Henry Mancini — Letra de Johnny Mercer

    Letra original:

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style some day,
    Old dream maker,
    You heartbreaker …
    Wherever you're goin',
    I'm goin' your way.

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
    Waitin' 'round the bend …
    My huckleberry friend,
    Moon River, and me.

    Traducción al español:

Río de luna, más de una milla de ancho
Te voy a cruzar con estilo algún día,
    Viejo creador de sueños,
    Destrozador de corazones …
    Adondequiera que vayas,
    Yo sigo tu camino.

Dos vagabundos, para ver el mundo,
    Hay tanto mundo para ver
Los dos buscamos el mismo arco iris
Que nos aguarda al final de la curva …
    Mi fiel amigo,
El río de luna y yo.

discovered this for the first time back in February of this year. I was feeling kind of depressed at the time. I remember listening to this and looking at the moon and stars and feeling so so happy for the first time in a while and crying because everything was so beautiful. Here I am, 5 months later, listening to this and looking at the moon again.

I think one of the worst miscasts that Hollywood ever committed
was giving this role to Audrey Hepburn instead of Marilyn Monroe.
This scene in particular would have been sheer MAGIC if it had
been Marilyn singing this exquisite song (and playing it on acoustic
guitar) instead of Hepburn. Hepburn had a DREADFUL voice and-as
you can see-could barely strum a guitar, whereas Marilyn's voice
was full of tenderness and depth:exactly what this song required
to really put it across to the audience. Marilyn could also play a
pretty fair acoustic guitar too; just listen to her play guitar (and sing)
in 'River of No Return' and I think you'll agree.
