Iowa-Class Battleships in Operation Desert Storm

As part of Navy Secretary John F. Lehman’s effort to build a 600-ship Navy in the 1980s, and in response to the commissioning of Kirov by the Soviet Union, the United States recommissioned all four Iowa-class battleships. On several occasions, battleships were support ships in carrier battle groups, or led their own battleship surface action group. The USS New Jersey saw action bombarding Lebanon in 1983 and 1984, while the USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin fired their 16-inch (406 mm) guns at targets Kuwait and launched missiles during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The USS Wisconsin served as the TLAM strike commander for the Persian Gulf, directing the sequence of launches that marked the opening of Desert Storm, firing a total of 24 TLAMs during the first two days of the campaign.

All four Iowas were decommissioned in the early 1990s, making them the last battleships to see active service. USS Iowa and USS Wisconsin were, until fiscal year 2006, maintained to a standard where they could be rapidly returned to service as fire support vessels, pending the development of a superior fire support vessel.

This is the real deal. A full powder load. You can see the sea surface rippled with the muzzle blast. In the fire demo to the public, they always use reduce powder charge. you can't see that ripple on the sea surface and it ain't right.

I think we should still use battleships like this for long range heavy atrillery and missile attacks. It's obsolete for ship on ship combat but definitely still useful as heavy artillery and still accurate because radar guided shells

I know they arent exactly a current ideal naval ship, but imagine with trumps updated military budget we could make 1 battleship again, with its guns being railguns, not shells.

The truth is that Kuwait was sideways drilling into Iraq's oil fields and stealing their oil and by doing so they were invading and commiting acts of war against Iraq. Truth is that there were no babies being thrown out of incubators or any other such nonsense. The truth is that this was just another war of aggression by the united states against a nation in order to steal wealth and resources. I love those old battleships but truth be told their best use would be to shell capital hill and the white house and the united nations in New York City.

please build one more battleship? with 32 inch main guns and a self defense system that is so arrogant to beg the enemy to try and take it out ! lol.. sorry but the battleships are badass and could even be badder !!! with sea sparrow, ciws and today's aircraft that doesn't need a flight deck ! the actual armament that we have! come on! the 32 inch main guns would be for fun.. fun but still yet devastating. the old 16 in. gun could hurl a car 22 miles, a 32 in. gun hurl a semi 22 miles or more. idk to be exact but i guess we will need to build one to know for sure, geez.. alot of work ahead.. oh and since the uss donald cook incident, imply analog technology as back up for the guns.. AMERICA F&#K YEAH !!!!!
