wha??? this was obviously a commercial move to sell this movie as a fun sexy swinging comedy, while it's possibly the saddest, more depressing movie ever. Way to fuck artistic integrity!

You're right, but I always had the impression that Italy never knew what to make of Antonioni. He ran contrary to the national temperament. The French loved him, but Fellini's was Italy's home-bred genius. Even now all of Italy worships Fellini, while Antonioni gets hardly as much attention.

    And the awards go to…
This film, for being the greatest motion picture ever.
and this trailer, for making itself into a masterpiece of unintentional comedy.

i rather liked this trailer. ive seen the movie a bunch of times and its my favourite next to l'eclisse. i think the trailer captured the superficial, aesthetic effect of the movie even if it is exaggerated in four minutes. if this was simply a straightforward, "true" trailer, it might have been worse because it could not possibly convey everything about the film in that way

Well, the alert movie goer of 1964 would know that Antonioni didn't make wacky sex comedies, and there are a few clues that indicate some of the despair expressed within the picture. Still, the scene in the shack is given way too much emphasis. This is NOT a light-hearted film.

I used to hate this trailer, but after watching it a few times it's really grown on me. The false cheery music suits the images. It hints at the underlying sadness of the characters. Perfectly sums up the film IMO.
